From Set Life to Support Work: Why I'm Becoming a Virtual Assistant

Hi, I’m Siân, the face behind Taskie, a calm and capable virtual assistant service based in the UK and ready to work around the world!
Taskie isn't just for those in business, it's for creatives, neurodivergent professionals, and anyone who needs a little help staying on top of life’s digital clutter.
For over 20 years, I worked in TV and film as a Standby Art Director and Props specialist (you'll have probably seen a few things I've worked on).
Fast-paced sets, tight deadlines, attention to detail, it was my world. But like many in creative industries, I reached a point where I needed a different pace. Something more flexible. More sustainable. Still purposeful.
That’s how Taskie began.
Why I chose VA work
I’ll be honest, I didn’t set out to become a virtual assistant. It wasn’t even on my radar.
Then one day, I was scrolling on TikTok and came across Steph from Funding Her Freedom.

She was talking about her journey into VA work, how she built a business offering practical support to people, how it gave her flexibility, and how she was now coaching others to do the same.
It stopped me in my tracks.
I’d never heard someone speak so plainly about doing something meaningful and sustainable without burning out or needing to be ultra-corporate. I started watching more of her videos and thought: “Actually... I could do this.”
So I signed up to her mailing list, joined her Bootcamp waiting list and dowloaded her Free VA Resources.
I looked into it. And the more I learned, the more it made sense.
For years, I’d already been the kind of person people turned to when things needed sorting - inboxes, files, documents, scheduling. In the background of creative work, especially in film and TV, you have to be organised, detail-focused, and calm in chaos. That’s always been my strength.
So, slowly and quietly, Taskie was born.
This shift into VA work feels like a natural next chapter, one that lets me use the skills I’ve spent decades building, but in a way that fits my life better. One where I can support others, on my terms.
What I feel I can offer now
As a beginner freelance virtual assistant in the UK, I'd love to support people who feel overwhelmed by the back-end of their work, the admin, the digital clutter, the decision fatigue.
I'd like to offer:
📩 Inbox management
📅 Calendar scheduling and reminders
📄 Document formatting and light proofreading
🗂️ Digital file organisation (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.)
🎨 Creative sourcing and visual research
I'll provide remote admin support that’s grounded in real-life experience, not tech trends. I’m not here to sell you a productivity system. I’m here to help you feel like things are actually under control.
ADHD-friendly support
One area I feel particularly connected to is supporting people with ADHD.
Over the years, both personally and professionally, I’ve seen just how overwhelming life can sometimes be for people with ADHD. Not because they’re “bad at being organised,” but because traditional systems simply aren’t built for neurodivergent minds. I’ve seen close friends, colleagues, and creatives I’ve worked with push themselves to the edge trying to manage inboxes, appointments, and unfinished tasks - all while juggling incredible creative work.
And I always found myself saying the same thing:“Let me help you with that.”
Not out of pity, but because I get it. Because I’ve seen the toll it takes. And because I like helping make things feel doable.
With Taskie, I’ve intentionally built a service that’s ADHD-aware. I offer structure and support in a way that’s flexible, clear, and never patronising.
That might look like:
Breaking down tasks into manageable chunks
Offering gentle nudges (if you want them)
Organising files or inboxes so they’re easy to maintain
Creating calm systems that work for your brain - not just mine
Being a quiet, steady presence in the background when everything feels a bit much
You don’t need to apologise. You don’t need to explain. You just need a little support - and that’s what I’m here for.
Still finding my feet
I’ll be real with you... I’m still figuring this all out.
Taskie is new. I’m new to the VA world. There’s a lot I’m learning as I go, from writing gig descriptions to understanding what kind of work feels like a good fit.
But I’ve spent over two decades working under pressure, paying attention to the small stuff, and keeping things running behind the scenes. That part’s not new at all.
I don’t have all the answers, but I do bring a lot of heart, care, and common sense. I like helping people feel less overwhelmed. I like making things easier for people.
And that’s enough of a reason to keep going.
💌 Stay in Touch
If you’ve made it this far, thank you. I really appreciate you being here while I find my feet and figure out how to shape Taskie into something meaningful.
If you’d like to see how this all unfolds, you can keep an eye on the blog page, follow me on Instagram (@taskie.sian.va) or drop me a message if you think you might need some virtual support in your own life or business.
No pressure, just a quiet space, real support, and honest updates along the way.
Siân
